Conceptual Definition of Digital Citizenship
Digital citizenship is defined as the ethical, responsible, and secure utilization of technology (ISTE, n.d.). Within the school district, this encompasses student behavior across all digital learning environments, including school-issued devices and educational applications.
1. Digital Safety and Information Security Protocols
Students demonstrate proficiency in secure and ethical technology utilization (ISTE, n.d.).
• Prioritization of personal data confidentiality and privacy protection (ISTE, n.d.).
• Consultation with authorized personnel prior to interaction with suspicious digital prompts or unfamiliar links.
• Implementation of standardized security protocols, including complex authentication and prohibited credential sharing.
Home-School Partnership: Collaborative establishment of approved digital platforms facilitates a consistent and secure learning environment (ISTE, n.d.).
2. Digital Etiquette and Interpersonal Civility
Students model appropriate and professional behavior within digital spaces (ISTE, n.d.).
• Consistency in interpersonal respect across both physical and virtual academic interactions.
• Critical evaluation of the potential impact of digital content prior to publication (ISTE, n.d.).
• Cultivation of inclusive digital communities and the mitigation of harassment or exclusionary practices.
3. Digital Identity Management and Presence Reflection
Students recognize the enduring nature and long-term consequences of their digital presence (ISTE, n.d.).
• Understanding the permanent nature of digital records and their influence on future academic and professional pursuits.
• Adherence to district standards for the appropriate curation and dissemination of media assets.
• Awareness of the potential for unauthorized redistribution of private communications (ISTE, n.d.).
4. Purposeful Academic Technology Integration
Students utilize digital tools to achieve specified learning objectives (ISTE, n.d.).
• Prioritization of school-issued hardware for curriculum-aligned research and instructional tasks.
• Management of non-academic distractions to ensure focused engagement during instructional periods.
• Stewardship of institutional resources, ensuring the proper maintenance and security of hardware assets.
5. Information Literacy and Responsible Research

7. Escalation Protocols for Online Concerns

Upon encountering distressing or non-compliant digital content, students will terminate the session and report to authorized personnel.
